CAUUC Cluster Grant
The Chicago Area Unitarian Universalist Council (CAUUC) is charged with
supporting member congregations in efforts undertaken jointly because
individual congregations may not have the necessary resources or
participants. CAUUC has established a program of “Cluster Grants”
designed to support this initiative.
Candidates for this program include congregations who may decide to
pool resources and participants in order to
• deepen the religious experience of their members
• spread the influence of the principles of Unitarian
Universalism in the Chicago area
• effect our Unitarian Universalist values for a just
and equitable world.
To support this sort of effort, CAUUC offers a grant of up to $500. to
two projects each year. Projects must be designed for the participation
of two or more congregations. The grant pays for such things as
transportation, food, facilitators, paper and other materials, etc.
Some of the projects which have received grants in the past are
• The RE programs of the “snowbelt” congregations, to
present the OWL curriculum to their junior high young people over three
weekends.
• Folk from five urban congregations, who combined
efforts to organize the Urban Coalition of Chicago.
• Two RE programs, who did a “Coming of Age” program
for their 8-9th graders together.
- Urban church programs who pooled their junior high kids to do a
"Boston Bound" program, Funds went to help some kids pay for the
trip.
Other suggestions for creative programming might be
• Combining efforts to organize or develop new
participation in a social justice project
• Joining efforts to develop plans for seeding a new
church
• Clustering leadership to engage the services of a
facilitator for leadership development.
• Getting together to do the Welcoming Congregation,
Green Sanctuary, or Journey toward Wholeness process together.
• Joining efforts for a program of publicity and
outreach.
